WISH-TV, virtual channel 8 (VHF digital channel 9), is a CW-owned television station licensed in Indianapolis, Indiana, USA. The station is owned by Circle City Broadcasting as part of a duopoly with licensed Marion WNDY-TV, a subsidiary of MyNetworkTV (channel 23); it is also the sister of getTV's Class A low-power WIIH-CD licensed in Indianapolis (channel 17).
These three stations divide studios on Meridian Street North (in the northern section of the Television section) on the near-north side of Indianapolis and broadcast stations on Walnut Drive in the August side of town on the northwest side of the city (near the Meridian Hills).
WISH-TV is available via cable on Charter Spectrum 3, Comcast Xfinity 7 and AT&T U-verse 8.
The station was first signed on air on 1 July 1954 at 18:00. Founded by K. Bruce McConnell - owner of WISH Radio (1310 AM, now WTLC) - it became the third television station to enter the Indianapolis market after WFBM-TV (Channel 6, now WRTV), which signed in May. 1949 and Bloomington licensed WTTV (channel 10, now channel 4), which signed six months later in November 1949.
WISH-TV originally operated as a primary subsidiary of ABC, as well as a secondary subsidiary of DuMont Television Network and NBC. WISH-TV originally broadcast its signal from a tower that it broadcast on WISH radio; The following year, the station built a 305-meter transmitter tower, which allowed the station to improve its signal coverage in the market.
