ARD, (German: Arbeitsgemeinschaft der öffentlich-rechtlichen Rundfunkanstalten der Bundesrepublik Deutschland (Turkish: Consortium of the public broadcasting institute of the Federal Republic of Germany)) is a joint organization of German regional public broadcasters. It was founded in 1950 in West Germany to represent the common interests of new, decentralized, post-war broadcast services.
According to 2015 data, ARD has a budget of 6.9 billion € and 22,612 employees. The budget of the organization comes from a license fee that each household has to pay by law for the company and the public agency. The fees are not collected directly by ARD, but by Beitragsservice, a partner company of ARD member publishers. In addition, the institution is one of the two public broadcasters in Germany, together with ZDF, which started broadcasting in 1963
