WZVN-TV, virtual channel 26 (UHF digital channel 28), is a subsidiary of ABC television station serving Fort Myers, Florida, USA, licensed for Naples (as such, it is one of two authorized stations licensed in Naples, along with partner organization CW WXCW, channel 46).
The station is owned by Montclair Communications; The local Waterman Broadcasting, which owns the Fort Myers subsidiary NBC and the flagship company WBBH-TV (Channel 20), operates WZVN-TV under a Local Marketing Agreement (LMA). Two stations share studios on Central Avenue in Fort Myers and transmitters along SR 31 in unincorporated southeastern Charlotte County.
WZVN-TV is trademarked ABC 7 due to its channel location on most of the Fort Myers cable systems, including Comcast Xfinity and CenturyLink.
The station first went on the air on August 21, 1974 as WEVU (phonetic translation of the word became the third television station in Fort Myers. The station was owned by the Gulfshore Television Corporation; it immediately acquired ABC affiliation, which was previously transferred to after hours of secondary permits via WBBH-TV (channel 20) and WINK-TV, a subsidiary of CBS (channel 11).
However, viewers with a good antenna could also watch the full ABC TV schedule from WPLG in Miami, WPEC in West Palm Beach (now a CBS subsidiary) or WLCY-TV (now WTSP, a subsidiary of CBS) in St. Petersburg.
The station's original studios were located off Highway 41 in Bonita Springs; its original transmitters were located southeast of Bonita Springs, near the Collier Lee County line. This arrangement allowed the station to provide a stronger signal in Naples and the southern Collier district than other broadcasting points in the market.
